Hendrick Motorsports No. 9 driver Chase Elliott clinched the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series Regular Season Championship at Watkins Glen International.
The 2020 champion entered Watkins Glen needing four points to officially lock in the regular season title before the final race before the playoffs at Daytona International Speedway next week.
Elliott started from the pole in the Go Bowling at The Glen and thanks to Team Penske No. 12 driver Ryan Blaney not earning any Stage 1 points, Elliott clinched the regular season title.
Elliott leads the Cup Series with four wins while no other driver has more than two. Elliott won his first career Cup race at Watkins Glen in 2018, and he has now won his first regular season title at the same track in 2022.
Elliott earns 15 extra playoff points for his regular season title, which is the equivalent of three race wins.
