UConn women’s basketball star Paige Bueckers will miss her senior year after tearing her ACL in a pick-up basketball game Monday.

The school made the announcement Wednesday.

“We’re all devastated for Paige. She’s worked really hard to get stronger and healthier this offseason, and this is an unfortunate setback,” said Geno Auriemma, Head Coach of UConn women’s basketball, in a statement. “Paige is obviously an amazing basketball player but she’s a better person and teammate and it’s really unfortunate that this has happened to her. We’ll miss her presence on the court.”

The devastating injury comes on the same knee that Bueckers injured last season that caused her to miss significant time.

She owns UConn’s single-game record for assists (14, against Butler on Feb. 27, 2021) and set the freshman record for assists with 168.

In 17 games last season, Bueckers averaged 14.6 points per game and just under four assists a game.
